Review of restaurants we ate at in Kauai The first 3 nights we were there we ate on the Poipu side and the last 2 nights we ate on the Princeville side. All in All John enjoyed the Tide pools restaurant the best and Patricia liked the Pacific Cafe Best. The meals ranged from Low 20's to Low 30's in price and we spent an average of about 85 per night.

  Crab cakes
Tide Pools at Hyatt 8 February 2004 (808)742-1234
Starter
Served with an delicious sauce that had Avocado as well as some other ingredients
Patricia Entree Seared Ahi
Cooked to perfection and very good
John Entree Macadamia Nut Crusted Mahi Mahi
Out of this world it was very flavorful.
Desert Coconut Crème Brule
Served in half a Pineapple core that was a nice touch as well a delightful desert.

Roy's Poipu 9 February 2004 (808)742-5000
Starter None
Patricia Entree Macadamia crusted Sword Fish
Nicely Cooked average entree which is better than most anywhere else.
John Entree Scallops over some Risotto
The scallops where huge and had good taste could have been better
Desert Chocolate Soufflé with Vanilla Ice Cream
The chocolate would ooze out and was very nice with the Ice Cream

Beach House 10 February 2004 (808)742-1424
Starter Crab cakes
Had a little zing to them that was nice not as good as tide pools.
Patricia Entree Macadamia Nut crusted Mahi Mahi
Very good and worth every penny, but still is not in the same class as the one at Tide Pools.
John Entree Seafood Paella consisted of Mahi Mahi, Shrimp, Scallops, Mussels
Very good if you like Paella and there was plenty of seafood to be eaten.
Desert Banana's Foster
Excellent taste, the only downside was that it was not prepared at the table. We like to see it cooked. I guess we are a little spoiled.

Bali Hai Restaurant 11 February 2004 (808) 826-6522
Starter Bali Hai Salad
Had Papaya Sead dressing that made the salad.
Patricia Entree Haena Hanapaa Crab and Mushroom with Mahi Mahi
Nicely cooked entree which melted in your mouth.
John Entree Pele Mahi Mahi
Past the point of enjoyment because of the spice that was put on the fish. They tell you that it is moderately hot and it is well past this.
Desert None

Pacific Cafe Kauai 12 February 2004 (808) 822-0013
Starter Tiger Eye Sashimi
This was absolutely incredible. It was an Ahi tuna roll that was flashed in the pan with Tempura and servers with a Soy Ginger Sauce.
  Shrimp Dumplings
Very similar to something that you would get with Dim Sum but the Shrimp where huge.
Patricia Entree Risotto with Ahi
Nice combination of the risotto with some of the best Ahi on the Island
John Entree Opah with Crunchy shrimp
Very flavorful and flakey that melted in your mouth.
Desert Toasted Hawn
Coconut on top of White cake that had Macadamia Nut Mousse on top with Macadamia nut slivers and a decorative cookie
